MCU’s 838 Wanda: An Avenger? or X-Men?

*Spoiler Ahead*

What seemingly a peaceful household where an afternoon baking cookies and singing an ice cream song to acquire it for dessert is the normal for this family. A crazed red witch is trying to take over the head of household is lurking to take care of the kids. No, this is not Vicky from Nickelodeon’s The Fairly Oddparents, but a much brutal one. But we are not talking about that character, but the character that she made an avatar and went MMORPG mission on the self-proclaimed greatest team in that universe. We are talking about Universe 838 Wanda Maximoff.

In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the version of Wanda Maximoff in the 838 Universe is introduced as a housewife with 2 kids. She appears like a weekend soccer-mom enjoying her day-off with the kids and does not give a vibe of a professional mercenary/assassin just like 616 Clint Barton. But we (MCU watcher) are aware of 616 Wanda Maximoff as an Avenger with a dangerous power - Chaos magic. It appears the 838 version also has that dangerous power and is showcased in the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness when she infiltrated the Baxter Foundation with 616 Wanda controlling her mind and actions. Now the question is if she is also a member of the Avenger with a private life on the side like 616 Clint Barton. Or is she part of another group like maybe the X-Men? In which we can speculate that this team exist in the 838 Universe with the appearance of Charles Xavier also known as Professor X. The Professor X that led the X-Men which are member of the Xavier Institute, a safe haven for Mutants.

What is the X-Men? Or Drax can do one better, what is a Mutant? We are going to touch a bit on the Mutant and then the X-Men, so stand still my invisible friend.

mutants

In the Marvel Comics they are defined as a human being that possess a genetic trait called the X-gene. It causes the mutant to develop superhuman powers that manifest at puberty (Wikipedia). The Mutants have their own classification within the Marvel Comics.

X-Men

The X-Men are a group of mutants that helps other mutants that are unable to fit in the society, may it be because of their appearance or getting identified as a mutant by the public, unable to control their powers, and trying to find their identity. In the comics, mutants are not well-liked due to their difference with others having unique powers and are labeled dangerous by the civilians (not superpowered). They have a bad image in the society because of limited knowledge regarding them and by other mutants who uses their power selfishly towards their own selfish gains such as committing crimes.

The Mutants classification have not been introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe even in the most recent film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. MCU fans are just speculating for now with the introduction of Professor X that the mutants are canon to this universe/multiverse. And the possibility of their introduction to the timeline/universe the fans are familiar with that is now dubbed as Universe 616 in the MCU.

So, with that said, the MCU 616 Wanda became part of the Avenger, would the Universe 838 version be as well?

From what I think, Universe 838 Wanda is not part of the Avenger, instead she is so-so part of the X-Men.

I think 838 Wanda as we see her have retired from the Xavier Institute and the X-Men life and settle down with her kids. Yes, I think her kids is real and I think she adopted them. The kids have not manifested their mutants’ power yet and adopted them from the Xavier Institute so that they would not have to be targeted as an X-Men and also 838 Wanda wanted them to live a normal life. As for 838 Wanda, she probably became one of the mentors in the Xavier Institute and in part participated with the X-Men to help their cause. When the X-Men became more and more getting to the public’s eyes 838 Wanda wanted to be out. She took these 2 kids that she is probably mentoring and develop and emotional connection as it reminds her of herself and her twin Pietro.

In the Xavier Institute, she probably became closer to other mutants that is similar to her, making Jean Grey, a telepath, a great candidate for a friend and also a mentor. Also, the leader of that institute happens to be Professor Xavier, who in the film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was part of the Illuminati. 838 Wanda probably have a little connection with Professor Xavier as a mentor, as this would be more of Jean Grey’s area, but there is a mutual respect. In the film, Professor Xavier is the only Illuminati member that took 616 Doctor Strange warning a little bit more of caution as he probably was aware that any version of Wanda Maximoff has dangerous powers as he has worked with their universe’s version. Maria Rambeau, scoffed at the idea of the threat of the little witch and even Captain Carter did not voice anything regarding Wanda meaning she probably have limited to none having connection with her. Both of them are part of the Avengers. And if there are connections it’s a bad one - I have a theory about this and will talk about it in the near future.

Conclusion

This is the reason why I believe that the white shirt, mom jeans, soccer mom-like 838 Wanda Maximoff is part of the mutant faction and is an X-Men. Or a retired X-Men.

Got me thinking, would 838 Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange ever tried to recruit this universe’s Wanda to be part of the Sanctum? Or their version of the Ancient One perhaps? But yeah oh well.
